Minoring in International Studies

For students in other programs who want to add a global perspective to their existing curriculum, a minor in IS is available. The requirements of the minor are:

Completion of 18 semester hours, consisting of:

  1. Either POLS 1501 (Introduction to International Relations), POLS 1301 (Governments of the World) or UNHP 1102 (Challenge of Globalization - Social Sciences) (3 hours)
  2. INTL 4601 (Senior Seminar in International Studies) (3 hours)
  3. one upper division course in a modern foreign language (3 hours), and
  4. three upper division courses that count towards the IS major. A maximum of six hours from either study abroad or internship credits may be used towards fulfilling the requirements of the IS minor (subject to approval by the IS director). (9 hours)
NOTE: As IS is an interdisciplinary program, many courses that count towards your existing degree program may also count towards this minor. For example, ECON 4351 (International Monetary Economics) can count towards both a major in Economics and a Minor in International Studies.
